MathMe is committed to protecting the privacy and safety of children. This page outlines how we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Summary: MathMe is designed for ages 7+. We minimize data collection, do not target ads at children, and require parental supervision for users under 13. All multiplayer and account features require sign-in, which should be done with parental knowledge.

1. What is COPPA?

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a U.S. federal law that protects the privacy of children under 13. It requires operators to obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from children, provide transparency, and allow parents to control their child's data.

2. Data Collection Practices

2.1. Without Sign-In (Guest Mode)

Children can use MathMe's single-player modes without creating an account. In this mode:

No personal information is collected
All data stays on the device
No cloud sync or multiplayer
Anonymous analytics only (device model, OS, app usage patterns)

2.2. With Sign-In (Google or Apple)

Sign-in enables cross-device sync and Duel mode. When signed in, we receive:

Email address from the auth provider
Display name (if provided)
User-chosen nickname

For children under 13, sign-in should be performed by or with a parent/guardian. Google and Apple have their own family/child account policies that provide additional protections.

2.3. What We Do NOT Collect

Phone number
Physical address
Date of birth
Photos, videos, or audio
Precise geolocation
Social security or government IDs

3. Advertising

The free version of MathMe displays ads via Google AdMob.

Ads are configured for mixed-audience content
No behavioral targeting of children
EU/EEA users see a consent dialog (UMP) before ad personalization
Ad content is filtered for age-appropriateness by AdMob

4. Multiplayer (Duel Mode)

MathMe includes a real-time 1v1 Duel mode. In this mode:

Players are matched for math competitions
Only nicknames and game scores are visible to opponents
No free-text chat or messaging
No photo or media sharing
No friend lists or social profiles
Sign-in is required (parental supervision recommended for under 13)

5. Third-Party Services

MathMe uses the following services, all vetted for compliance:

Supabase — authentication and data storage (encrypted, RLS-protected)
Google AdMob — advertisements (COPPA-aware configuration)
Google Analytics (GA4) — anonymous usage analytics
Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting (no PII)
Google / Apple Sign-In — OAuth authentication

6. Parental Rights

Parents and guardians have the right to:

Review their child's data (visible in Profile/Statistics)
Delete their child's account and all data (Settings → Delete Account)
Disable sign-in by not providing credentials
Disable in-app purchases via device settings
Contact us with any privacy concerns

7. Offline Mode

All single-player modes work fully offline. When offline:

No data is transmitted
No ads are shown
No analytics are collected
Full functionality for Practice, Standard, Arcade, Survival, and Time Attack modes

8. In-App Purchases

MathMe may offer a premium subscription. All purchases go through App Store or Google Play, which require authentication. Parents can disable in-app purchases via device parental controls.

9. Data Security

All network communication uses HTTPS/TLS encryption
Database is protected with Row Level Security (RLS)
No passwords are stored (OAuth only)
Regular security audits

10. Age Verification

MathMe relies on:

App Store / Google Play age ratings (7+)
Parental supervision for children under 13
Google/Apple family account protections

11. Updates

We regularly review our COPPA compliance. Changes will be communicated through App updates and this page.
